About Roatán Insider
Roatán Insider is an iOS app ($4.99, one-time purchase) built by Josh Green / Josh Green Design Studio, based in West Bay, Roatán, Honduras. The app helps visitors and residents discover local businesses, restaurants, beaches, dive shops, and more across the island of Roatán.
No Account Required
The app works fully without signing in. You don't need to create an account, provide an email address, or share any personal information to use every feature in the app.
Location Data
Roatán Insider may request access to your device's precise location. This is used only to:
- Show nearby businesses on the map
- Provide directions from your current location
Your location data is:
- Not tracked — we don't record where you go
- Not shared — it never leaves your device
- Not linked to your identity — we don't know who you are
Location access is entirely optional. You must grant permission through iOS, and the app works without it — you just won't see distance information or be able to get directions from your current location.
Favorites & Saved Businesses
When you tap the heart icon to save a business, that data is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. Your favorites are:
- Stored only on your device
- Never transmitted to any server
- Not backed up to our systems
App Preferences
We use iOS UserDefaults to store your app preferences (such as unit preferences). This data is non-personal, stored only on your device, and is never transmitted anywhere.
No Analytics or Tracking
Roatán Insider contains zero third-party tracking SDKs. There is no Firebase, no Mixpanel, no Facebook SDK, no Google Analytics, and no other analytics or tracking service of any kind. We genuinely do not track you.
No Advertising
The app contains no advertisements. We do not use ad networks, ad identifiers, or any advertising-related frameworks.
No Data Sales
We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your data to any third party. Ever. This is not a business model we will ever pursue.
Third-Party Services
The app uses Apple MapKit (Apple Maps) to display maps and provide directions. When you use map features, Apple's standard Maps services are invoked. This is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
No other third-party services are used in the app.
Data Retention
All data created by the app (favorites, preferences) stays on your device. We have no servers storing your information. If you delete the app, all associated data is deleted with it.
Children's Privacy
Roatán Insider is rated 4+ on the App Store. The app does not collect personal data from anyone, including children. There are no accounts, no forms, and no data collection mechanisms of any kind.
Changes to This Policy
If we make changes to this privacy policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we may also add an in-app notification.
