Every place on this list is somewhere we have been ourselves, usually more than once. These are the spots we send our friends and family to when they visit.
We are Josh and Pamela, the owners and on-site hosts at Casa Mañana in West Bay. We have lived on Roatán since 2025, after spending five years sailing the Western Caribbean. This island is home, and we love sharing the best of it with our guests.

Freshly baked breads and world-famous cinnamon buns alongside the best burger on the island with Texas BBQ flair. Located on West End Road in Half Moon Bay, Sandy Buns is a must-visit whether you are craving breakfast pastries or a hearty lunch. The bakery alone is worth the trip.
Sundowner's Beach Bar
A West End institution in Half Moon Bay and the place to be for sunset. Sundowner's has great food, drinks, and a welcoming atmosphere that builds through the evening. The sunset views are unbeatable. We end up here at least once a week.
Splash Inn
Beachfront restaurant at Splash Inn Dive Resort in West End. A popular gathering spot for casual meals, cold beers, and people-watching. Live music some evenings adds to the vibe.
Blue Bahia Beach Grill
Caribbean-inspired dishes in a relaxed beachfront setting in Sandy Bay. Blue Bahia serves fresh seafood and USDA beef alongside tropical drinks. A great spot for a meal right after a morning in the water.
Bananarama – Thirsty Turtle Bar

The Beach Club San Simon

Kismet at the Meridian
A secluded beach bar at the Meridian resort in West Bay. Kismet serves light, fresh food and creative cocktails with ocean views in a setting that feels tucked away from everything. Great for a quieter, more curated experience.
Smoky Grill

Bigros Pizzeria & C Level Pizzeria
Thin-crust pizza in West End, made-to-order with fresh dough. Whether you hit Bigros or C Level, you are getting quality wood-fired pizza that punches above its weight. Casual spots that we have sent many guests to with consistently positive feedback.

Tacos Raul
Honduran-style tacos and gringas in West End. Raul's is a buzzing street food spot open evenings — the tacos are incredible, simple, authentic, and cooked right in front of you. This is the kind of spot locals line up for. Do not skip this one.

Junior's Patio
Artisan pizza in an eclectic courtyard setting in West End. Junior's uses fresh dough daily and the results speak for themselves. BYOB makes it even better. A West End staple that has been feeding locals and visitors for years.
The Shack

Arlyn's Place

Honduras grows some of the best coffee in the world, and you can taste it right here on Roatán. Whether you need a morning espresso or a quiet spot to work with WiFi, these are our go-to cafes.
Bean Crazy – West Bay
Our closest coffee shop and the one we visit most often. Bean Crazy in West Bay serves excellent Honduran coffee, espresso drinks, smoothies, and light bites. A short walk from Casa Mañana and a great way to start the morning.
Bean Crazy – West End
The West End location of Bean Crazy offers the same great coffee in a lively setting right on the main strip. Convenient if you are spending the day exploring West End's shops and restaurants.
Bean Crazy – Dolphin Plaza
Located in Dolphin Plaza near Roatán's airport, this Bean Crazy location is perfect for grabbing a proper coffee right when you land or just before you fly out. A much better option than airport vending machines.
JavaVine Cafe & Wine Bar
Coffee by day, wine by night in West Bay Mall. JavaVine is a cozy spot for digital nomads and anyone who appreciates quality drinks. Great coffee during the day transitions into a wine and cocktail menu in the evening.
Roatan Oasis
Contemporary fusion dining in West End with a weekly changing menu that includes vegan options. Roatan Oasis is more than a cafe — it is a full restaurant experience with creative dishes in comfortable surroundings.
Honduras is one of the top coffee-producing countries in the world. Ask for locally grown Honduran coffee at any cafe — you will taste the difference. The beans from the Copan and Marcala regions are particularly exceptional.

Roatán's nightlife is relaxed and social rather than clubby. Most evenings revolve around beachfront bars, sunset drinks, and live music. Here are the spots worth knowing about.
Sundowner's Beach Bar
The quintessential sunset spot in West End with great cocktails and a lively evening atmosphere. Sundowner's in Half Moon Bay is where most evenings start — the views and vibe are unmatched.
Herby's Sports Bar
Sports bar at Clarion Suites in Pineapple Villas, French Harbour. Herby's is your spot for catching games on the big screens with cold beers, pub-style food, and a friendly crowd. A solid choice when you want a break from the beach bar scene.
The Lounge
A cafe and cocktail bar in West End serving specialty coffees and meals during the day, transitioning to evening drinks and cocktails. The Lounge has a welcoming atmosphere and keeps the energy going later than most other spots.
Bananarama – Thirsty Turtle Bar
Great for afternoon drinks and events at Bananarama in West Bay. The Thirsty Turtle has a social, vacation-mode atmosphere and often has something going on — live music, happy hours, or themed events.
Kismet at the Meridian
Curated cocktails in a secluded West Bay setting at the Meridian resort. The drink menu is creative, the vibe is more lounge than dive bar, and the setting feels tucked away. A nice option for a mellower evening.

Roatán has some of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean, and you do not need a resort wristband to enjoy them. Here are the three we recommend most.
West Bay Beach
This is our home beach and the reason we chose to build Casa Mañana where we did. West Bay Beach is consistently ranked as the number-one beach in Honduras and one of the best in the Caribbean. Powder-white sand, crystal-clear turquoise water, and a vibrant reef just a short swim from shore. The beach is lined with restaurants and bars, so you can spend the entire day without needing to leave. It is an 8-minute walk from Casa Mañana.
Half Moon Bay
An intimate bay in West End with a more local, bohemian feel compared to the polished stretches of West Bay. The snorkeling right off shore is excellent — you can see coral, tropical fish, and often sea turtles within minutes of wading in. A quick water taxi from West Bay makes it an easy half-day trip. Half Moon Bay is also home to Sandy Buns and Sundowner's.
Camp Bay Beach
A long, deserted beach on the far eastern end of the island. If you want to escape the tourist areas entirely, Camp Bay is worth the roughly one-hour drive from the west side. Very few visitors, stunning scenery, and the sense of having a Caribbean beach almost entirely to yourself.
West Bay Beach is free and open to the public. Some resorts have their own beach chairs for guests, but there is plenty of open sand. We keep beach towels and complimentary snorkel gear at Casa Mañana, so you can head down with nothing but sunscreen and a good book.
5. Diving & Water Sports
Roatán sits on the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef — the second-largest reef system on Earth — which makes it one of the best and most affordable places in the world to dive. Whether you are a certified diver or have never put on a mask, there is a dive shop here for you.
Bottom Time Scuba
Our neighbors Jay and Lavina run this boutique, owner-operated dive shop — literally a 10-second walk from Casa Mañana. Bottom Time Scuba keeps groups small at 8 divers or fewer, uses steel tanks for longer dives of 60 to 80 minutes, and offers PADI courses from Discover Scuba all the way through Divemaster. The personal attention and small group sizes make this a completely different experience from the larger operations. We could not ask for better neighbors or a more convenient dive shop for our guests.
West Bay Divers
A PADI 5-Star dive center with nearly 1,000 five-star reviews on TripAdvisor. West Bay Divers has built an outstanding reputation for professionalism, safety, and a great diving experience. Located on West Bay Beach, they offer courses and fun dives for all levels.
Bananarama Dive Center
Part of the Bananarama resort complex on West Bay Beach, this dive center offers a full range of PADI courses and daily fun dives. The convenience of diving right from the beach combined with the resort's bar and restaurant makes for an easy, full-day experience.
Paradise Beach Divers
A boutique dive center at Paradise Beach Hotel in West Bay offering snorkeling, diving, freediving, and technical diving. Paradise Beach Divers has experienced instructors and a focus on making every underwater experience exceptional.
If you are staying at Casa Mañana and want to dive, we always recommend starting with Jay and Lavina at Bottom Time Scuba next door. The convenience of walking 10 seconds to your dive shop cannot be overstated, and the personalized experience with small groups is something you will not find at the bigger operations.

The most convenient grocery option for West Bay visitors. Fresco Market carries a solid selection of essentials, fresh produce, meats, snacks, and beverages. Walking distance from Casa Mañana and well-stocked for day-to-day needs.
Roa Market – West Bay
Wines, liquors, groceries, and snacks in West Bay next to Beacher's. Handy for picking up provisions without driving to the larger stores in French Harbour.
Roa Market – West End
The West End branch of Roa Market serves that neighborhood well. If you are spending a day in West End, it is a convenient stop for water, snacks, and essentials.
Eldon's Supermarkets
The largest supermarket chain on Roatán with the widest selection of groceries, household items, and imported goods. If you are stocking up the kitchen at Casa Mañana for a longer stay, a trip to Eldon's is worth the drive.
Ramirez Supermarket
A solid full-size supermarket in Sandy Bay with competitive prices and a good selection. Ramirez is an alternative to Eldon's and sometimes has items the other stores do not carry.
Gas, Convenience & More
Petrosun Gas Stations
If you are renting a car or scooter, fill up at any Petrosun station. They are the main gas brand on Roatán and you will see them along the main road. Fuel up when you see one — stations can be spaced out.
Captain Van's Liquor & Convenience
Liquor, beer, snacks, and essentials in West Bay Mall. Captain Van's is the kind of place you will visit more than once during your stay for quick provisions.
Serrano's
The go-to hardware and home goods store on Roatán. While most visitors will not need a hardware store, it is worth knowing about if you need anything practical during a longer stay.
Ace Hardware
Yes, there is an Ace Hardware on Roatán. Located in French Harbour, it carries a wide range of hardware, tools, and household supplies. A familiar name if you need something specific.
Megapaca Discount Stores
Megapaca is a Central American discount chain where you can find clothing, household items, and basics at very low prices. Great for picking up a cheap beach coverup or flip-flops if you forgot to pack them.
7. Activities & Sightseeing
Beyond the beach and the reef, Roatán has some genuinely special spots that are worth the trip. Two of our favorites are right next to each other on the island's hillside.
Kristi's Overlook
Panoramic ocean views from a hilltop location mid-island. Kristi's Overlook offers the best views on Roatán — full stop — alongside great Tex-Mex food. Bring your camera, because this is the photo you will use as your phone wallpaper for the next year. We recommend every single one of our guests make this trip.
Kristi's Island Kitchen
Fresh seafood and steaks with southern US fusion flavors, plus live music and beautiful views. Kristi's Island Kitchen is a standout dining experience in West Bay. We always tell guests to combine a visit to Kristi's Overlook with a meal here — it makes for a perfect half-day outing.
Combine Kristi's Overlook and Kristi's Island Kitchen into one trip. Hit the overlook first for photos, then head to the kitchen for lunch. It is one of the most memorable half-day outings on the island, and guests consistently tell us it was a highlight of their trip.
8. Practical Tips
A few things that are helpful to know before you arrive. These are the practical details that make your trip smoother and more enjoyable.
The Honduran Lempira is the official currency, but U.S. dollars are widely accepted throughout Roatán, especially in West Bay and West End. Most restaurants, dive shops, and tour operators quote prices in USD. Smaller local businesses and taxis may prefer Lempiras. We recommend bringing a mix of small U.S. bills ($1, $5, $10, $20) — many places cannot break anything larger than a $20. ATMs are available in Coxen Hole and French Harbour.
Taxis are the most common way to get around. Agree on a fare before getting in — there are no meters. A ride from West Bay to West End typically costs a few dollars. Water taxis run between West Bay Beach and West End (Half Moon Bay) and are a fun, scenic way to hop between the two areas. Collectives (shared minibuses) run along the main road and are the most affordable option for longer trips. If you want more freedom, car and scooter rentals are available on the island. We can help Casa Mañana guests arrange transportation for any outing.
Tipping is appreciated but not always expected to the same degree as in the U.S. At restaurants, 10 to 15 percent is a good guideline — some places add a service charge automatically, so check your bill. For dive instructors, tour guides, and boat captains, a tip in cash (USD is fine) is always welcome and appreciated. Taxi drivers do not generally expect tips, but rounding up is a nice gesture.
Roatán is one of the safest places in Honduras, especially in the tourist areas of West Bay and West End. Use the same common sense you would anywhere: avoid walking alone on unlit roads late at night, do not leave valuables unattended on the beach, and use reputable transportation. Drink bottled water outside of resort areas (here is the full answer on Roatán water). At Casa Mañana, we live on-site and are always available if our guests need anything or have safety questions. Having local hosts makes a real difference.
